Taking a soccer player from good to great is a rewarding experience we all can relate to. But did you know that it takes more than talent alone for that player, or team, to reach his or her performance potential? It requires that those who serve that player's development - the coach and club - are also maximizing their own potential. We call that Strengths-Based Coaching, and NASC's SBC Consultants can show the direction and steps you need to take to get there. Whether your needs are licensing, certification, competency or organizational structuring, let us spend some time with you to help you map out the future success of your club, coaches and players.

  • Coach Certification
  • Coach Consultation
Certification
NASC's Strengths-Based Coaching (SBC) approach is highly unique and needs to be communicated to as many coaches as possible. It is the foundation of our curriculums as well as the three unique coaching certification courses our staff must go through before they are allowed on the field.

We see SBC as an approach to coaching. It is set firm in the belief that HOW we coach (the process) is more essential than WHAT we coach (the information delivered). Strengths-Based Coaching operates from the point of view that every individual has a natural set of talents that when combined with knowledge and skill in a positive psychological climate, develop into strength.

There are three coaching courses offered as a companion to the Play S.A.F.E., A.T.T.A.C.K. and Pro Performance Training curriculum. Each course has a Foundation Level to reinforce SBC philosophies, a Selective Level that relates to the respective curriculum, and an Assessment Level that is both practical and theoretical on both SBC and the core coaching content. All participants in each course are assessed in their understanding of the player's physical and psychological development, and the ability to adapt their coaching methodology and behaviors to match those needs. Attendees participate in age-appropriate practical sessions and also coaching theory workshops. Participants are also required to complete a written assessment examining their knowledge and understanding of the course and also to complete a logbook.

The best time to teach something is when it seems nothing needs to be learned.
—NASC CEO, Dr. Gary F. Russell

Over the past 40 years NASC has gained invaluable experience and knowledge about the development of children, adults and sports. Equally, we have learned much about what it takes to run a successful program, develop successful players and people and build a successful business.

Most importantly, it is our experience working with young, developing players that has been the greatest influence in our growth and expertise. It is the millions of children we've worked with who have been our best teachers. While they are not members of a professional team or high level organization, they are oftentimes just as genuine, if not more so, in their desire excel and perform to their fullest potential.

NASC's mission has always been to "Lift People Beyond Their Vision of Capability," and every player, coach, parent or club we work is open to the idea of improving. Therefore, consultation from experts is a critical part of progress for those who have the desire to be the best they can be. NASC is here to work with you to create a plan for the successful development of every member of your club. We also offer incredibly effective tools if you wish to take it one step further and have us work with you to carry out the plan we develop together through our consultation.

You may be thinking that our time together will be about just the technical aspects of developing your soccer players, your teams, your coaches and your club. Think again. NASC starts far earlier than working on skills that result in improved physical performance. We start at the beginning and introduce you to a totally new approach...a totally new way of identifying and maximizing the talent everyone possesses. This is the key that no other soccer organization has. With our history of working closely with leaders in the sports world - NFL, PGA, Olympians, and MLS, to name a few - we have discovered the importance of talent and excellence leading to higher levels of performance and productivity. Our approach has 40 years of proven research behind it and is the answer to realizing the maximum potential in everyone.
