Winning is all about having a fun and rewarding experience in everything you do.
Strengths-Based Coaching is working to your strengths and maximizing your talents to increase performance. As America's most innovative and cutting edge youth sports education provider, NASC understands the importance of identifying talent and working to strengths. We have developed a sequential, developmental pathway for players aged 5 all the way to up to the Elite Team level. Only NASC coaches have the background, knowledge, expertise and training to effectively serve your players. All staff members are trained in Strengths-Based Coaching, a revolutionary coaching philosophy that will dramatically improve every coaching interaction for you, your organization and each coach, parent and child. Find out why Major League Soccer chose us as their Official Camp and Clinic Program for 13 years, why the Gallup Organization trusts us to help develop youth talent profiling, and why countless organizations work with us to provide quality coaching certification.
What is Strengths-Based Coaching?
- Looking at a person's assets, not their liabilities...viewing the glass half-full, not half-empty
- A philosophy that comes from "what is"...from talent/strength
- Working with what is there rather than trying to put in what is left out
- Realizes that every player has assets
- Doesn't ignore weaknesses, but rather coaches around them
- Replicates positive behaviors
- Players feel safe enough to take risks to lift themselves beyond their vision of capability
- Green Cards given as rewards
- Players and coaches who are engaged

What is a Strengths-Based Club?
SBC is a philosophy built around creating a positive approach to living and coaching. It's about implementing standards of excellence developed over years of experience and research involving the way kids think, feel and act. We have worked for over four decades with millions of children across the country, and have used these experiences to create our unique Kidriculum, a tested and perfected program that fosters the talents of players and coaches of all ages and skill levels.
Kidriculum will be the foundation of your Strengths-Based Club, allowing you and your organization to most effectively develop your strengths and create an environment in which they can flourish. We know how important sports can be in the growth of children, and it is with this in mind that we strive to make our program all about strength, community and fun.

Green Cards
For well over a century soccer has had its penalties and infractions. Both are managed by a color-coded card system that reprimands, warns or removes players who break the rules. For visual representation, there is the yellow card signaling caution. A soccer player receiving two yellow cards in one match is sent out of the game. For more serious infractions, there is the red card signaling stop and resulting in the player having to leave the game with no other warning.
As the game has grown in popularity, it has reached younger and younger audiences. Unfortunately, no one has really thought through whether this age-old method of managing infractions is really a proper teaching methodology for the game. When working with children, we at NASC contend that the teaching method is negative and punitive. It does not teach children the game in a positive way.
To change this paradigm, we have developed Green Cards, which are used by every one of our staff members while they are coaching. The idea is to identify a child doing something positive, point it out and 'book them' a green card. As a coach, your goal should be to identify as many positive situations as possible.
Children learn best when they connect repeated actions with constructive comments. When these actions are rewarded, complimented and noticed it makes the learning process that much more clear and enjoyable. The coach who uses Green Cards does just that. Each one says GO! Do it again! It shows others what is right so that they can imitate the behavior of the Green Card recipient and they can then work to seek out their own green light to go.
The beauty of this process is that it is simple. When coaching you must develop the ability to find something positive in every child that helps build each individual's strength and enhance their team's performance. For some children it could prove difficult to find something good, but it is imperative that you do, even if it is a green card for showing up!

SBC White Paper and 'Talent & The Elite Player' series
SBC White Paper
A white paper is a marketing document meant to influence people's opinions about an emerging technology or idea. It's a company's statement about how a problem should be solved. It is usually meant to generate interest in a product or to promote investment or sales of a product. This product simply espouses the benefits of Strengths-Based Coaching, and how it can help organizations in your community.
Talent & the Elite Player
'Talent & the Elite Player', written by NASC CEO Dr. Gary F. Russell, headlines a series of articles highlighting the role of Talent Identification in the development of an elite player. They include topics such as what talent is, how to identify it, its internal and external components, profiling and the creation of effective training methodologies relevant to specific talents in order to maximize player performance.

StrenghtsFinder Book with Code
Do you have the opportunity to do what you do best every day? Chances are you don't. All too often, our natural talents go untapped. From the cradle to the cubicle, we devote more time to fixing our shortcomings than to developing our strengths.
Gallup research has proven that the best way to develop people -- and net the greatest return on investment -- is to identify the ways in which they most naturally think, feel, and behave as unique individuals, then build upon those talents to create strength, the ability to provide consistent, near-perfect performance in a specific task.
To help people uncover their talents, Gallup introduced the first version of its online assessment, StrengthsFinder, in the 2001 management book Now, Discover Your Strengths. The book spent more than five years on the bestseller lists and ignited a global conversation, while StrengthsFinder helped millions to discover their top five talents.
In StrengthsFinder 2.0 Gallup unveiled the new and improved version of its popular assessment, language of 34 themes, and much more.

Our Unique Kidriculum
NASC is proud to offer clients our age-appropriate downloadable soccer curriculum that provides coaches and players with an extensive library of drills and activities. The age-appropriate 10-week curriculum is available in 14 categories ranging from 2-4 year recreational soccer to 17-19 year competitive.
It is vital that the curriculum a player is taught matches his or her age and development. This is why NASC created the Play S.A.F.E. curriculum for younger, less experienced players ages U4-U10, the A.T.T.A.C.K. curriculum for more seasoned players ages U10-U18, and Pro Performance for U18 players that want to push themselves even further. We now also offer our R.E.A.C.H. program for goalkeepers!
