UAS Flight Services

uas-flight-services-intro

NASC Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Flight Services began as a extension of our design and manufacture of multiple Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) platforms for the Department of Defense. Initially the services we provided were exclusively in support of the warfighter.

Whenever the mission, whether training, RDT&E or operational, required experienced unmanned  aircraft unmanned mission commanders, pilots, payload operators, or the entire host of flight services personnel, NASC was there…and still is. We have provided support for over 100,000 flight hours, the majority in operational environments.

NASC Flight Services has expanded to embrace civilian mission requirements. As the FAA continues to open Unmanned Aircraft Systems into the US National Airspace, the demand will increase in the commercial sector to include Agricultural Surveying, Aerial Mapping, Security, Firefighting, and Emergency Response. Specialized sensor and payload equipment needs to be controlled by skilled personnel from remote locations to accomplish these missions and save time, money and even lives.

Proven Personnel

Successful and efficient operation of Unmanned Aircraft Systems requires a team of field-proven experts. NASC provides all phases of UAS Flight Services including hiring, training, and deploying experienced mission personnel.

We offer some of the best operators in the business. Our experts understand rapid response and operational excellence.

NASC flight services team members provide contract UAS flight services for a range of aircraft.

UAS Flight Service Roles

NASC flight services team members provide contract UAS flight services for a range of aircraft. Our personnel specialize in unmanned aerial vehicles operating the Cloud Cap Piccolo Command Center including the NASC TigerShark-XP™ and the NASC Teros™. Coupled with our Ground Control Stations and other support products, NASC Flight Crews provide short or extended flight operations throughout the world. We provide initial and recurrent UAS Qualification Training including flight operations, maintenance and logistics.

Mission-ready NASC personnel are available to provide flight services in the following roles:

Mission-Commanders

The Mission Commander coordinates with the Pilot, Sensor Operator, and local airspace authority to ensure a successful flight. Mission commanders also monitor checklist usage as our checklists are “read-do” and initiated by the MC. The MC will read a checklist item and then verify the task has been completed.

Payload Operators are responsible for the care and operation of the sensor/payload. Payload Operators coordinate with the AVP and MC to complete the mission.

flight-instructors

Flight Instructors are seasoned professionals with many hours on the platform. Flight Instructors are responsible for teaching AVPs to operate a UAS in accordance with published curriculum. Flight Instruction is usually broken down between ground school, ground operations, and flight training.

Air Vehicle Pilots are responsible for preflight, post-flight, and safe operation of the aircraft. AVPs operate the UAS in accordance to the mission profile and published limitations. The AVP will work with the MC and Payload Operator to perform the mission. As Pilot in Command (PIC), the AVP has final authority on the operation of the UAS.

Logistics-Personnel

Logisticians are professionals in ordering and receiving and understand how to palletize materials and equipment correctly to ensure supplies get to and from their destination in a safe and timely manner. Logisticians understand the complexities of transporting delicate and hazardous materials.

Technicians handle all of the maintenance needed of the aircraft and ground support equipment. Technicians perform routine maintenance and keep logbooks up to date. Technicians will work with Logisticians in ordering needed materials for operations. Technicians work with AVPs in discrepancy reporting and assuring the UAS is ready for flight.

UAS Flight Service Management

  • Supply Chain Management
Logisticians carefully monitor mission status of our UAS detachments and track storage and shipping of parts to ensure Fully Mission Capable (FMC) aircraft for operational efficiency.
  • Procurement and Inventory Control
NASC representatives use a the full circle approach of supply chain management to forecast needed consumables and streamline purchasing thereby ensuring a seamless supply of critical parts.
  • Third Party Logistics
NASC has an extensive third party network of talented vendors responsible for providing UAS parts on short notice. Outsourcing certain equipment keeps NASC logistics lean and customer focused.
  • ITAR and EAR Compliance
Our Export Control Officers provide trade compliance expertise for Unmanned Aircraft Systems export.
  • HAZMAT Compliance
Violations in Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) Compliance can lead to severe financial and legal penalties. NASC trains employees in Federal, State and Local regulations in handling, shipping, or receiving hazardous materials.

UAS Flight Test Facility

Navmar Applied Sciences Corporation (NASC) has opened a new Unmanned Aerial Systems Flight Operations and Training Center at the Griffiss International Airport in Rome, NY. Griffiss is operated by the County of Oneida and is one of the six UAS Test Sites established by the Federal Aviation Administration. NASC maintains multiple offices and a large hangar space at its Griffiss location. In addition to our own efforts to ultimately integrate our UAV platforms into the national airspace, these first-class facilities are available to our government, academic, and commercial customers for all levels of unmanned aircraft systems research, development, testing, and evaluation.
